THE GOOD:
GOOD LOOKS FOR AN ENTRY LEVEL PHONE
HDMI OUTPUT
AMOLED DISPLAY
THE BAD:
BASIC PHONE
VIEWING ANGLES
LOOK A BIT OLD FASHIONED
THE UGLY:
SHORT BATTERY LIFE
SMALL TEXT SIZE
It has been quite some time now that the phone has been in the market. Available in only black color, it offers just normal display bundled in light weight. Although, the phone is just entry level but offers great features to talk about. We will take the phone step by step to get you an overview.
General:
Generally speaking the phone works on all the GSM modes and the ones available in US. 3G services are also supported by the phone. Acer liquidmetal comes with 5MP camera which is not that bad.
Build:
The phone's build is not bad at 119.5 x 63 x 11.2mm. So, it is quite small phone. The weight is normal at 140g. The Form factor of the phone is candy bar.
Display:
At 480x800 pixels, phone's display is quite solid. It is medium in size so, whatever the user is going to view, they have to put a bit of stress on their eyes to get a hold of what is there on screen. With AMOLED type display at 16M colors, phone has actually turned out quite good in terms of touchscreen also. So, on the basis of display size and good resolution coupled with a good touch, display is good. The availability of phone in one black color is a bit dissatisfying.
Software:
Running at OS 2.1 Eclairs only as an entry level phone but upgradable.
Hardware:
Hardware of the phone is quite impressive at 1GHZ processor speed and 2GB internal storage capacity. Acer liquidmetal comes with 1400mAh battery which provides good backup and talk time.
Memory:
This is where it is good, internal memory is mere 2GB so you can download whole lot of applications but unfortunately there are not many available in Eclairs so, you will have to upgrade android operating system. In addition to this, the phone support microSD card up to 32GB. Still, the phone's internal memory had to be more.
Camera:
There is good 5MP camera coming with this phone so you can shoot at maximum resolution of 2560x1920 pixels in still image mode and video can be recorded in 720p High Definition. Unavailability of secondary camera however is something that hurts.
Web Experience:
With android smartphones, the best thing I like is the ability to browse web with full flash support which is not there in iphones. But, at the small screen it’s not much of an experience that user would love to have. YouTube can also be played. Phone is equipped with the tools necessary to browse web but, small screen and low resolution is where it does not feel great.
Connectivity:
There are all connectivity options available in this phone when it comes to GSM based connections, GPRS, EDGE, Wifi connectivity, Bluetooth, 3G all options are available. To connect to computer it has micro usb 2.0 connectivity.
Battery:
Battery in Acer stream is quite good. At 1400mAH, it provides good standby time as well as talk-time. The stand by time on 2G is expected to be 400H and on 3G its 500H. Talk time on 2G networks would be around 5 Hours and 6 Hours 30 Minutes on 3G networks.
Verdict:
For an entry level user, acer stream may provide quite good experience but if you are looking for a 4.3 inch smartphone with good screen size and good touch experience you should look somewhere else.
